What is employee matching?
Employee matching is a program offered by many companies where they match donations made by their employees — either by dollar amount or hours volunteered — to eligible nonprofits like the Isanti County Historical Society.
How do I know if my company offers a matching program?
Check with your HR department or benefits portal. Some companies also use platforms like Benevity, CyberGrants, or YourCause. If you're unsure, we’re happy to help you find out.
What kinds of donations can be matched?
Depending on your employer, they may match:
- Financial donations
- Volunteer hours (often valued at a set hourly rate)
- Event sponsorships
- Gifts in kind or services
Can I get matching credit for hours I volunteered with ICHS?
Yes! Many employers offer volunteer hour matching — often called “Dollars for Doers” programs — where your time turns into a financial donation. Keep track of your hours and check your company’s guidelines.
What paperwork do I need to complete?
Most companies have a simple form to submit or an online portal. You may need our EIN, contact info, or a signed acknowledgment. We’re happy to provide anything you need.
Can matching apply to past donations or hours?
Often yes — many programs allow you to submit matches within a certain time frame (e.g., 6–12 months after the donation or volunteering). Be sure to check your company’s rules.
Is my match tax-deductible too?
Only the original donation you made is tax-deductible to you. The matched amount is considered your employer’s gift.
I’m self-employed or own a business — can I match my own gift?
Absolutely! Many business owners choose to match their employees’ or even their own donations to local causes. Reach out if you’d like help setting that up.
How does ICHS use matching funds?
Matching funds go directly toward preserving our historic sites, supporting educational programs, and expanding access to local history. Your doubled gift makes a real difference.
