Looking for a meaningful way to connect with your community and preserve local history? The Isanti County Historical Society relies on dedicated volunteers to help us bring history to life.
Whether you're passionate about the past or simply want to lend a hand, we offer a variety of opportunities to match your interests, skills, and availability.
Volunteer roles may include:
- Event support – Help run programs like Old Time School, tours, or seasonal events
- Research assistance – Work with archives, photos, or genealogy projects
- Collections care – Assist in organizing and preserving historical items and documents
- Facility help – Lend a hand with exhibit setup, basic cleaning, or light repairs
- Grounds maintenance – Help with mowing, trimming, seasonal cleanup, and beautification
- Construction or trades – Skilled support for repairs, building maintenance, or site upgrades
- Sewing and Costume Support – Create or repair historical costumes for events and educational programs
- Front desk or visitor greeting – Welcome guests and share information about our sites
- Marketing or outreach – Help us share our mission through social media or community engagement
- Gift shop or online store support – Assist with sales, inventory, or product photos
Can I get a tax donation statement for my time or professional support?
While we’re deeply grateful for volunteer time and professional services, the IRS does not allow tax deductions for donated labor. However, we can acknowledge in-kind donations of materials or reimbursable expenses if prearranged.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
Not at all! Many roles require only a willingness to learn. We'll provide guidance and training.
Is there a time commitment?
You can volunteer as little or as often as you'd like. Some roles are one-time, others are ongoing — we’ll work with your schedule.
Can I bring a friend or group to volunteer with me?
Yes! We welcome families, service groups, and workplace teams. Just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
What if I have a specific skill or service to offer?
That’s fantastic. Whether it’s carpentry, landscaping, IT support, or something else — let us know on the form or reach out directly. We often have behind-the-scenes projects that need skilled hands.
Why do I have to fill out a volunteer application form?
The form helps us match you with the right opportunity and ensure a safe environment for all involved. For roles working with children or sensitive materials, background checks may be required.
